Piedmont Driving Club, in southwest Atlanta, bills itself as one of the most prestigious clubs in the South.?

The leaders of an exclusive, 125-year-old Atlanta social club are cracking down on members after reports leaked about a recent golf tournament that devolved into a naked, drunken bacchanal.

The frat-boy antics at the prestigious Piedmont Driving Club were detailed in a letter from one outraged member, John C. Weitnauer, to the club's president.

A tipster whose friend is a member leaked the letter to the sports blog Deadspin late last month.

In the letter, Weitnauer, a prominent Atlanta attorney, fumed about rumors that one golfer had "decided to play the 14th hole completely naked."

"I have not researched it, but I suspect this is a crime in Georgia," he said.

Several other members allegedly went to the bathroom on a green in front of a female caddie, while others repeatedly dropped their golf knickers in front of her, Weitnauer wrote.

Meanwhile, on another hole, a golfer showed his pals how he could pick up his ball "with his naked butt cheeks," the high-powered bankruptcy lawyer wrote.

"I suspect that this behavior ? if it occurred at Bobby Jones Golf Course ? would have resulted in a call to the police and the arrest of the offender," Weitnauer wrote.

Members also used another group of golfers as targets, hitting shots at them while the group was putting on a green, Weitnauer claimed.

The loutish behavior allegedly continued during a post-tournament party in the club's men's grill, the letter said.

When one trashed golfer passed out in the grill, another member "opened his pants, pulled out his penis, and slapped the passed out member's head with his penis," Weitnauer said.

When a guest at a nearby wedding rehearsal dinner told the golfers to keep it down, the golfers responded "Go f--- yourself!" and later mooned the rehearsal party, the letter said.

Weitnauer called the behavior "horrific" and called for the members to be fined, kicked out and have their names posted inside the club, to "let the wives and children of these drunkards be confronted with, and ashamed by, the grotesque conduct of their husbands and fathers."

The exclusive club, which was founded in 1887 and bills itself as the most ?prestigious private club in the South,? has not confirmed the letter?s claims.

The club's brass sent a letter scolding members for the behavior and suspended and fined three prominent local businessmen who allegedly spearheaded the Caddyshack-style escapades, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported on Sunday.

"We take this matter very seriously and are looking into it further. When all of the facts are gathered and verified, we will consider further action," the club said in a statement to the newspaper.
